Marsden Cove
Area Description
Although not srictly in northumberland, Marsden Cove provides a good alternative to the climbing wall for many of the county's climbers who live in Tyne and Wear. 'The Cove' has provided an excellent training ground for many years - the sheer amount of problems, coupled with excellent landings and a supurb atmosphere make this a fascinating place to boulder. A whole variety of problems can be found here, slopers, pockets, jugs and crimps in an unprecedented volume thanks to the concretionary limestone which makes up the area.

Location and Approach
From the A19 south of the River Tyne: Take the A194 turn off towards South Shields. At the first roundabout turn right onto theA1300. Go straight over all of the following roundabouts for around 4 miles, staying on the A1300, passing twosets of shops and eventually the Marsden Inn. When the coast is reached turn, left away from Marden Rock. Then park on the right after 150 metres, as close to the bus stop as possible. From the bus stop walk straight over the links towardsthe coast, passing through a crop circle and then along a vague path through some thicker grass until thecoast edge is reached. The cove, which makes a W shape, is directly in front of you.
Public Transport: Metro to South Shields. Frequent buses run to the forementioned stop.
