Edlingham

Area Description

Edlingham lies on the now cleared hillside above the B6341 Alnwick to Rothbury road. The boulders provide a very pleasant day’s bouldering with great views North across the Alnwick moors. In particular, Bob’s cave provides an excellent little circuit of problems which are mainly suited to those climbing fb 6c-7b (V4-8). The quality of the rock is good for this area and is certainly superior to the nearby Caller boulders. The problems are highball and 2 mats would certainly be recommended for the cave and east face topouts.

Location and Approach

From the A697 Morpeth to Wooler road: From the A697, turn as for Corby’s onto the B6341. The boulders are clearly visible on the hillside on the right after a mile. Park in one of the lay-bys and walk up the hill for 5 minutes. Bob’s cave is located in the centre of the collection of rocks. There are no access issues, but please park sensibly in order to maintain the good relationship with the forestry commission.
